Description:
World premiere recording of works by Count Rosintal Jan Antonin Rosi (1650-1721), Bohemian luthier and composer. Count Rosintal Jan Antonn Rosi (1650-1721) was a Bohemian luthier and composer. He studied not only music but also at Charles University in Prague, where he graduated with a doctorate in philosophy. As a lutenist, Rosi became an unrivaled virtuoso in France and Italy, and he was devoted to the works of Lully and worked to popularize the French style in Prague as well. This album features world premiere recordings of works for violin, flute, viola da gamba, and harpsichord, not to mention lute. Although most people think of Rossi as a lute player, a review of documents from the time reveals that many of his works were performed by chamber ensembles, including violin and basso continuo. The performer, Jan Ciesmacher, collected Roshi's manuscripts from all over Europe and reconstructed these works. He performs them with the {oh!} Ensemble, made up of members of the Polish ensemble {oh!} Orkestra Historiciina. After Rosi's death, Weiss composed the famous Tombow in honor of the Count, which is included as the final piece on this album.
